Lexus NX vs. Acura RDX: Luxury Compact SUV Comparison

There’s no shortage of choices in the world of luxury SUVs, and this presents a unique problem—with so many options, how are buyers in Fort Pierce, FL supposed to pick just one?

We don’t have time to go through all the potential models, but we can narrow things down a bit by comparing two of the best luxury crossovers currently on the market. Here’s a breakdown of the main features of the 2025 Lexus NX vs. the 2025 Acura RDX.

Price and Trims

Both SUVs are available in a number of different grades and packages, but one has significantly more options than the other.

Here are all the grades of the 2025 Lexus NX:

  • NX 250: $41,990
  • NX 250 AWD: $43,590
  • NX 250 Premium: $43,915
  • NX 250 Premium AWD: $45,515
  • NX 350 AWD: $45,750
  • NX 350 Premium AWD: $47,675
  • NX 350 Luxury AWD: $51,815
  • NX 350 F Sport Handling AWD: $50,360
  • NX 350h AWD: $46,300
  • NX 350h Premium AWD: $48,225
  • NX 350h Luxury AWD: $52,365
  • NX 450h+ AWD: $62,415
  • NX 450h+ F Sport Handling AWD: $63,505

And here are the available packages for the 2025 Acura RDX:

  • RDX: $44,700
  • RDX Technology Package: $47,300
  • RDX A-Spec® Package: $50,300
  • RDX Advance Package: $52,450
  • RDX A-Spec® Advance Package: $54,450

For those not counting at home, that’s 13 available grades for the NX, and only 5 for the RDX, meaning the Lexus SUV offers a much greater range of choices.

The NX also starts out a few grand less expensive and continues to be more affordable until the top-level 450+ plug-in hybrid grades (more on that in a second).

Powertrains and Performance

One of the main reasons folks buy luxury cars is for their often-thrilling performance specs.

The RDX comes with but a single engine and drivetrain option: a 2.0-liter turbo 4-cylinder, which puts out 272 horsepower and 280 pound-feet of torque, which is plenty of oomph to provide a fun ride. It’s paired with Super Handling All-Wheel Drive™ and a 10-speed auto transmission. This setup grants it an EPA fuel economy rating of 23 miles per gallon combined.

In terms of choice, the NX absolutely blows the RDX out of the water. It has four available engine options, including a hybrid and a plug-in hybrid:

  • NX 250 models: 2.5-liter inline 4-cylinder
  • 203 horsepower
  • 184 pound-feet of torque
  • 28 MPG combined
  • NX 350 models: 2.4-liter turbo 4-cylinder
  • 275 horsepower
  • 317 pound-feet of torque
  • 24 MPG combined
  • NX 350h models: 2.5-liter 4-cylinder w/hybrid motor
  • 240 horsepower
  • 39 MPG combined
  • NX 450h+ models: 2.5-liter 4-cylinder w/hybrid motor
  • 304 horsepower
  • 84 MPGe
  • 37 miles all-electric range

While the base NX engine may not have quite the punch that the RDX’s does, shoppers looking for a little more power can easily opt for an NX 350 for the same price. And, if you’re looking to save money at the pump, Lexus has quite a few affordable options for that too.

Tech and Safety

Another prime reason to spend your hard-earned cash on the best luxury SUV is so that you can enjoy all the extra amenities that aren’t available in run-of-the-mill models.

The base NX grades come with a 9.8-inch high-res multimedia display, while the premium grades come with a massive 14-inch center screen. Regardless of which screen you opt for, all come with a heaping helping of features like Drive Connect with Cloud Navigation, Intelligent Assistant, and Destination Assist. Other standard features include wireless Apple CarPlay® and Android Auto™, SiriusXM®, and voice command. The NX can also be optioned with a 10-inch head-up display, wireless device charger, and a Mark Levinson® 17-speaker, 1,800-watt PurePlay Surround Sound system.

All RDX models come with a 10.2-inch center display screen and 7-inch multi-information display combo, as well as standard features like wireless Apple CarPlay® and Android Auto™, SiriusXM®, wireless phone charging, and an integrated Wi-Fi hotspot. A 10.5-inch head-up display and Acura/ELS Studio 3D premium sound system are optional.

Both SUVs also come with plenty of driver assistance features through Lexus Safety System+ 3.0 and AcuraWatch™, both of which come with intelligent adaptive cruise control, automatic braking, lane departure warning, lane keeping assist, pedestrian detection, and more.

Both SUVs are certainly impressive, but the Lexus NX simply provides much greater value, performance, and standard tech features, giving it the decisive edge over the RDX. Better luck next year, Acura.
