A Full Three Rows: The All-New 2024 Lexus TX
SUVs with a third row aren’t anything new—almost every major auto manufacturer offers at least one example. The problem with many three-row SUVs is that the rear seats seem to be added in as an afterthought. They may technically have seating for six or seven, but if you plan on cramming a full-sized adult back there, you might need the jaws of life to pry them back out.
Lexus has heard the masses clamoring for an SUV with a truly usable third row. They’ve delivered with the 2024 TX, which made its grand debut late last year. Now that we’ve had some time with it, we figured we’d highlight some of the finer points and see why it might just be the best luxury family SUV yet.
How Does the TX Compare to Other Lexus Models?
Now, you may be thinking, wait a minute, doesn’t Lexus already offer a luxury three-row SUV?
In fact, they have a few.
Until very recently, Lexus offered an extended version of their ever-popular RX model, dubbed the RX-L. After a few years, they sought to upgrade the user experience, and thus the TX was born, effectively replacing the RX-L as a roomier alternative with the same impressive standard of drivability, technology, and upscale comfort.
So, what about the larger three-row Lexus models, the LX and GX? These big-time luxe SUVs are fantastic family vehicles in their own right, but they’re geared for more off-road capability, with body-on-frame construction and full-time four-wheel drive. The TX represents a more mild-mannered city-driving middle ground, with a lower price point and multiple available drivetrains for improved fuel economy.
2024 Lexus TX Trims and Price
The 2024 TX is available in standard gasoline, hybrid, and plug-in hybrid configurations. It has the option of front-wheel or DIRECT4 all-wheel drive, and comes in a wide variety of grades, which largely echo those of the RX.

TX 350 AWD | $56,650 |
TX 350 Premium | $58,450 |
TX 350 Premium AWD | $60,050 |

TX 500h Sport Performance Premium AWD | $69,350 |
TX 500h Sport Performance Luxury AWD | $72,650 |
TX 500h+ Luxury AWD | $78,050 |
The TX is positioned smack-dab in the middle of the Lexus lineup’s price point, providing the ample amenities associated with the marque at a family-friendly price that makes it one of the best value luxury SUVs available.
2024 Lexus TX Powertrains and Fuel Economy
With three different available engine options, the TX has something for everybody.
- Standard on the base, Premium, and Luxury 350 models, we have a 2.4-liter turbo in-line four cylinder, which gets 27 miles to the gallon on the highway and has a combined MPG rating of 23.
- Hybrid TX 500h models get a similar turbo engine and electric drive setup, which cranks out an impressive 366 horsepower and 406 pound-feet of torque, motivating it from zero to sixty in about six seconds. It has a combined MPG of 27.
- The plug-in hybrid 500h+ features a six-cylinder engine with even more brawn, creating 404 horsepower. Using the all-electric motor, it achieves an estimated 76 MPGe and is capable of 33 miles of completely fuel-less driving.
2024 Lexus TX Dimensions and Interior Space
At just over 203 inches of length, the TX is the longest model in the brand’s portfolio, and this allows it to feature some truly class-leading passenger and cargo measurements compared to other three-row SUVs on the market.
Here’s a breakdown of the interior dimensions:
1st row | 2nd row | 3rd row | |
Head room | 41.4 in | 40.1 in | 37.2 in |
Shoulder room | 60.0 in | 59.0 in | 57.4 in |
Hip room | 56.5 in | 56.8 in | 45.7 in |
Leg room | 41.6 in | 39.5 in | 33.5 in |
Behind 3rd row | Behind 2nd row | Behind 1st row | |
Cargo volume | 20.2 cu ft | 57.4 cu ft | 97.0 cu ft |
That’s nearly three feet of leg room in the third row, plus ample side-to-side space for passengers to stretch out on longer journeys. The TX comes standard with a second-row bench seat that allows it to accommodate seven adults comfortably, and a six-seater option with second-row captain’s chairs is also available. It also features ample storage compartments throughout the entire cabin for ease of organization.
Even with all of the seats up, the storage space in the back is generous enough to bring multiple suitcases along for the ride. Fold the third row flat, and it rivals or surpasses the total capacity of most midsize SUVs. With the second and third rows folded, it becomes a veritable cavern of cargo carrying possibilities. To top it off, both rear rows are split-folding, making it incredibly versatile for both people and payload.
2024 Lexus TX Tech and Features
It may be a brand-new vehicle, but Lexus fans will likely recognize the tech-forward interior setup. Which employs a driver-focused design reminiscent of models like the RX.
The infotainment screen curves subtly to the driver’s eyeline to ensure safety and ease of use, and it measures 14 inches diagonally, providing a high-resolution display that’s intuitive and customizable. All of the Lexus standards are present: Intelligent Assistant, Digital Key, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, and Cloud Navigation. The TX also has the option for a super-premium 21-speaker Mark Levinson sound system.
Infotainment is paired with a standard 7.0-inch multi-info display, while upper grades receive a bulked-up 12.3-inch MID with available heads-up display. Auxiliary tech functions include a wireless charging pad and up to seven USB ports and three power outlets to handle all device charging needs, no matter how many people you have along for the ride.
Of course, it just wouldn’t be a Lexus without going above and beyond when it comes to safety, and the TX delivers in kind. The Lexus Safety System 3.0+ is in full effect, guaranteeing the TX is one of the safest three-row SUVs on the road. Features include:
- All-speed Dynamic Radar Cruise Control
- Proactive Driving Assist
- Emergency Driving Stop System
- Pre-Collision System with Pedestrian Detection
- Lane Tracing Assist
- Lane Departure Alert with Steering Assist
- Road Sign Assist
Other driver assistance tech includes Blind Spot Monitor, Rear Cross-Traffic Alert, and available Traffic Jam Assist.
